About Us

Jessica Gibbons M.A., CCC-SLP
Speech-Language Pathologist

Jessica Gibbons

Sugar Plum Speech was created by Jessica Gibbons, M.A., CCC-SLP in 2012.
During my time working with young children with impairments, I got to know a great number of families, and a lot of them were concerned that their child needed more speech or more intervention than what they were receiving. At the time, there were not a lot of options for these families. Sugar Plum Speech was started to help those children who need help in addition to the support they receive through the school system or in Early Intervention.

Jessica Gibbons decided she wanted to be a speech-language pathologist (SLP) while working on her Bachelor’s degree in Education at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. She was writing a paper describing the connection between behavior problems of children and communication impairments and felt a great empathy for the children she read about who could not express their needs and emotions. This led her to research the field of Speech-Language Pathology.

After talking to SLPs in schools and hospitals, she pursued a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. With her degree, she completed a Clinical Fellowship and was certified by the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) in 2005. She has worked with school age and preschool children as well as toddlers. She has worked with children with various diagnoses including Down's Syndrome, Phonological Processing Disorder, Developmentally Delayed, Autism, and Apraxia. She currently lives in the Poconos with her family, their lovable dog, and not so lovable cat.
